Lorene Spurlock, 93, of Spurlock Community near Stratford, Texas, died
Wednesday, January 26, 2011.

Funeral Service will be held 10:00 A. M. Saturday January 29, 2011, in Brentwood Chapel, Schooler Funeral Home, with Rev. David Terry of United Methodist of Stratford, Texas, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia St.

Lorene was born in Amarillo on November 14, 1917, to Dorris and Arthur Folsom.
Her father was a shepherd east of Amarillo when she was a young girl. The family
moved to Sherman County to farm near the Spurlock Community and she attended
School in Stratford.
Lorene married Travis Spurlock January 3, 1937, in Stratford. They built their
home in the Spurlock Community where they lived 68 years. Early in their
marriage Lorene raised and sold turkeys, eggs and cream to help with the family
income. She enjoyed growing flowers and beautiful green grass. She raised a
large vegetable garden yearly yielding food for summer and supplied the family
with food through the winter after canning and freezing the produce. She made
the best light bread, biscuits, cobblers, and fried chicken that you could ever want
to put in your mouth.
After raising her three children, she took up china painting, oil painting, piecing
and quilting quilts, crocheting afghans and sewing for missions.
Lorene was a member of the Methodist Spurlock Chapel. She belonged to United
Methodist Women for whom she sewed hundreds of children's garments for the
missions in Central America.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation for the devoted love and care
their mother received while living five years in the Village at Ware Memorial Care
Center. She felt the love of her caretakers and she loved them. Lorene became a
prayer warrior for those who cared for her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis, December 6, 2005; and grandson, Barton Russell Spurlock.

Survivors include her children Jean Spurlock of Ruidoso, NM, James Spurlock and
wife, Linda, of Stratford, Elaine Jordan and husband, Max, of Amarillo; two
grandchildren, Brent Spurlock and wife, Laurie, of Stratford; Mary Beth Tallant
and husband, Paul, of Lavon, TX; four great-grandchildren, Mary Ann and Russell
Spurlock and Makenna and Reid Tallant; four step grandsons, Mike, Clay, Kent,
and Jack Jordan.

The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, 520 North
Main, Stratford, TX, for mission support in Central America.
