Charley Piper died on Monday, October 17, 2005, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born on June 24, 1922, in Sesser, IL, and grew up in the area, and for a while worked in the coal mines of the area. He faithfully served his country during WW II and has lived in the Vicksburg area since 1955. Charley worked for the Simpson Paper Company in Vicksburg, and later Arco in Schoolcraft before retiring in 1984. Members of his family include his 5 children, Marvin and his wife, Jane Piper of Vicksburg, Donna and her husband, Chris Lodoen of Vicksburg, David Piper of Portage, Joyce Armstrong of Vicksburg, Diana Peschoff of Louisiana; brothers, Alfred and his wife, Tessie, Bobby and his wife, Glena, Ronnie and his wife, Leona, all of Illinois. A sister, Margie Kelley, 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a life long friend, Bob Storey, also survive. He follows in death his wife, Marie; sons, Marion and Billy; and a brother, Laverne.
