--James Henry Slaughter, aged 55 years, 5 months and 10 days, died at his farm residence, south of Marceline, Oct. 2, 1921. He had been in poor health for some time. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, at Peden Chapel, conducted by Elder Alfred Munyon.

--Mr. Slaughter was the son of John P. and Ruth Jane Slaughter. He was born in Linn county, Mo., April 22, 1866. He was married Jan. 10, 1889, to Miss Mary Ella Cupp. To this union twelve children were born00two of whom died in infancy, and another, Etta, at the age of 3 years. Mr. Slaughter is survived by a widow and nine children, Mrs. Tim Clarke, Minnie, Virlea, Willie, Harve, Fred, Chester, Ernest and Ennis; also a little grandson, Harold Francis Clark, all of Marceline. Beside these he leaves one sister, Mrs. J.J. Still, of Marceline, three brothers, Alonzo and William H., of Marceline, and Ed, of Lismas, Montana.

--All were present at the funeral but Ed, who was ill at his home in Montana.

--Mr. Slaughter was a member of Westville Lodge No. 565, I.O.O.F., and of Marceline Encampment No. 17. He was a man universally liked, a kind father and a good citizen. His loss is felt by the entire community.
