Mary's parents' were born abt 1860 to 1864 in Germany, which was war torn and suffering. However, her family survived relocation and was later returned to their homeland of Poland. They immigrated to the United States in 1880 for the ideal of a prosperous dreams and opportunities. Their family was routed through New York and settled in Detroit, Michigan.
The Halivinski's, as many European immigrants, were part of a Polish movement to voluntarily relocated and rebuild lives and communities based on Democracy and personal liberties with justice and freedom for all.
Most family's found laborer jobs at the local factories. Our family has had numerous members employed by the Ford Motor Factory. These employment opportunities are what drew members of the Kostielney's family to Detroit form Ege, Indiana. Mary Halivinski was joined in Holy Matrimony to Steven Kostielney in Detroit, Michigan in 1908.
Mrs. Kostielney was blessed with the gift of six children, five son's and one daughter. The Children are as follows in chronological order; Mr. Harry Herman Kostielney of Detroit, Michigan. Mrs. Helen Kostielney Galea of Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Edward N. Kostielney of Wyandotte, Michigan. Mr. George Kostielney of Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Raymond William Kostielney of Lakewood, California. Mr. Stanley W. Kostielney of Detroit, Michigan.
Mr. Kostielney was employed as an automobile mechanic to support his growing and thriving family. Mary was a doting and loving mother to her children and she remained at home as the children's primary caregiver. A job she valued and her presence left an impact on her family. Her children and grandchildren have always regarded her as a great mother and a wonderful woman, there is no greater accomplishment then the love and admoration of your children.
Mary Halivinski Kostielney died on August 30th, 1972 in Detroit, Michigan, in Wayne County. She is burried at a greater polish cemetery, Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Detroit. Mary gave us life, love, and memories that will always be cherished and her contibution to the Kostielney family will always live on.
