Aloys P. Mika was born on November 2, 1922 in Panna Maria, Texas to Felix Mika Sr. and Mary Yanta Mika.

He went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2015.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gertrude whom he married in 1947 after returning from the war. His children are: Sr. Susan Mika OSB (with the Benedictine Sisters), Michael (wife – Carrie, children – Erin, Jeffrey and Nicholas), David (wife – Tricia, child – Aubrey (husband, David Chancellor, children – Luke and Emery), Jeanette (husband – Ken Urbanczyk, children – Edward (E.J.) and Kelsey), Steven (child – Corey), Joseph (wife – Amanda, children – Valerie and Christopher), Ronald (wife – Laura, children – Heather, Clayton and Jeremy), Joan (husband – Frank Noland, children Matthew Moczygemba, Drew Moczygemba and Ariel Noland), Marty (wife – Anne, child Harleigh Holder). He is survived by his brother Felix Mika Jr., numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, brother Prosper and wife Irene, brother Sixtus and wife Mary, brother Lucien and his wife Margaret and sister-in-law Margaret.

He attended grade school in Panna Maria and high school in Karnes City.

He farmed and helped with chores until drafted into the U.S. Army in November 1944 and served in combat during World War II in the Philippines. Other places he served during his 20 year Army career were: Japan, Virginia (twice), Newfoundland (hardship tour), France (twice), Texas, and Louisiana. In 1964, he retired with a rank of sergeant first class (E-7).

He found another rewarding career as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years at the Dobie Station. He was well-known in the area for delivering mail on time and with precision.

He was always true to his farming roots, having a huge garden – feeding family and friends with all of the vegetables and fruits. He pampered his pecan trees and loved to shell, roast and share the fruit.

He rooted for all of his favorite sports teams – the Spurs, the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros.

He loved all the family gatherings for holidays and special occasions, taking great delight in seeing everyone.

His mom taught him to cook, clean and sew – skills he made use of the rest of his life.

The Mika family re-joined St. Benedict's Church in 1964, attending services and working for the last 50 years at school functions, Parish Festivals and the Golf Tournament.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Benedict's Catholic Church Building Fund, 4535 Lord Road, San Antonio, TX 78220.
