OBITUARY - Verna Wissinger, Buffalo News, The (NY), February 4, 2002

Verna Wissinger, 68, died Saturday (Feb. 2, 2002) in Lockport Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born Verna Heiple in Johnstown, Pa., and graduated from high school in Shanksville, Pa. Mrs. Wissinger moved to Lockport in 1954 and to Wolcottsville in 1960. She worked at R.J. Reynolds and then at Nabisco in Lockport for 27 years until the plant closed in 1988. She then worked eight years at Akron Rule Corp., Akron, as a riveter operator. She retired in 1996. Mrs. Wissinger enjoyed bingo and entering drawings. She was a member of the Wolcottsville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include four daughters, Verna Hilton of Jonesborough, Tenn., Cindy Myers of Newport News, Va., Carol Golding of Wolcottsville and Marie Stanton of Lockport; three sisters, Mary Myers of Ambridge, Pa., Esther Dunn of Somerset, Pa., and Sadie Durst of Stoystown, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main St., Gasport. Burial will be in Cold Spring Cemetery, Lockport.

Verna (Heiple) Wissinger, 68, of Akron, N.Y., suddenly entered into rest Feb. 2, 2002 at Lockport Memorial Hospital, Lockport, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late George and Annie (Naugle) Heiple. Preceded in death by parents, husband Clair, and children: Clair Jr., David, and Linda, and grandson Kyle Wissinger. Survived by these children, Verna Hilton, Jonesboro, Tenn., Carol Golding of Wolcottsville, N.Y., Marie Stanton, Lockport, N.Y., and Cindy Myers of Newport News, Va.; also 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, and these sisters; Mary Meyers, Ambridge, Esther Dunn, Berlin, and Sadie (Alvin) Durst, Stoystown. Verna was born in Paint Township and attended Shanksville-Stonycreek School. Interment was a Cold Spring Cemetery, Lockport, N.Y.
