Margaret Elizabeth Doak Blakely, only daughter of Thomas Clarence Doak and Anna Catherine Petersen Doak, was born August 18, 1916 in Winterset, Iowa and passed away October 8, 2008 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at the age of 92.

Her family lived in Winterset until 1928, moving to Osceola for four years and then to Greene County where Margaret finished High School at Paton, Iowa in 1935. Margaret moved to Des Moines where she was employed until her marriage to Harry Taylor Blakely on September 25, 1937.

Harry and Margaret started farming in the spring of 1938 at the old county farm that had just been discontinued and lived there for three years. They decided to buy a farm close by, the old Daniel estate, in 1942 and kept on farming. Margaret always had a big garden which gave her lots of nice vegetables to can. She enjoyed sewing, making many of the family clothes, and was an excellent pie maker.

They were parents of four children: Richard LaVerne, who was stillborn, Gary Lee, Judith Ann and Patricia Sue. They enjoyed family vacations every year - especially to Missouri. When their children were grown, Harry also drove a stock truck for more than 25 years throughout the county, and Margaret decided to work at Clarke County Hospital for sixteen years - a job she enjoyed and got to know many nice people. They were members of Osceola United Methodist Church.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard LaVerne at birth; daughter, Judith Ann Fleener in 2002; and husband, Harry Blakely in 2007.

She is survived by son, Gary Lee Blakely of Osceola; daughter, Patricia Sue Criss of Osceola; grandsons, Travis Blakely, Shane Blakely, Jarod Criss, all of Osceola, and Kris Hargis of Portland, OR; granddaughters, Kim Thrasher (Kevin) of Wahoo, NE and Heather King of Ft. Collins, CO; great granddaughters, Amanda Sanders, CeJay Blakely and Emma Thrasher; great grandsons, Drew King, Sam King and Ben Thrasher; other relatives and friends.
