Doris Irene Bacon, 79, of 4352 Burlington Turnpike, Towanda, Pa. passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 7, 2015 at her home following declining health.

Doris was born at home in Burlington Township, Pa. on April 10, 1935, the daughter of Martin A. Selleck and Myrtle May Smith Selleck. She was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1953. In early years, Doris was employed by Herman Rynveld Sons in New Albany, Pa. On July 10, 1955 she married Merle R. Bacon at the Mountain Lake Methodist Church. The couple worked their farm together in Burlington Township for many years where they raised their family. Doris enjoyed farming, gardening, reading, needlework, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Her life revolved around her family and home as she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Doris attended the Independent Baptist Church in Towanda and formerly attended the Mountain Lake and Burlington Methodist churches where she was active in the Methodist Women's group for many years. Doris served as a chaperone for the Troy High School Band and as a 4-H leader for a number of years.

Surviving are her husband of nearly 60 years, Merle at home; children, Calvin L. Bacon and wife Shelia of LeRaysville, Janet L. Greenfield of Monroeton, Gail D. VanNess and husband Donald of Burlington Township, Dawn M. Rishel and husband Paul of Potterville; grandchildren, Jonathan Bacon and wife Michelle and their children Ian and Micah, Heather Bacon, Sarah Laudermilch and husband Dann and their children, Joseph, Cora and Henry, Mimi Dewing and husband Joel and their daughter, Bryn, David Bacon and wife Sarah, Antoine Bacon, Aaron Greenfield, Lauren Greenfield and fiancé Alan Wolfe and Jessica Rishel and fiancé Daniel Swartley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert "Bob" Selleck Sr. and Raymond Selleck.

The funeral and committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. with pastor Donn Hauser officiating. Interment will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday and from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. The family suggests that contributions may be directed to the Independent Baptist Church, 109 Cherry St., Towanda, PA 18848 or to the , Bradford Unit, 1948 E.
