Esther Bayer, 88, died peacefully on April 4, 2014 in Vancouver, Washington. She had been suffering from Alzheimer's. Esther was born in Grenville, South Dakota, December 26, 1925 to Xavier and Anna Pionk.
Esther moved to Washington state with her family when her father took a job on Grand Coulee Dam. They later moved to Vancouver where she attended Vancouver High School. She met Lewis G. (L.G.) Bayer while working at a restaurant in Vancouver during the war. They married in 1943 and were married 53 years until L.G.'s passing October 14, 1996.
Esther loved her family and enjoyed participating in family activities. She was active in the Vancouver Elks Emblem Club and served as president. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending her vegetable garden, canning, cooking for family, and watching the birds in her yard from the front window with her cat, Kiki.
Esther is survived by her children, Dennis L. Bayer (Julie) of Ballard, WA, Linda L. Seacat (Dennis) of Vancouver, Leslie A. Bayer-Haslam (Dan) of Vancouver; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters, Georgia Ellis of Vancouver and Alice Girard of Florida.
A special thank you for the excellent care Esther received at Mary's Care Home. The family is forever grateful.
A mass and celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 12:00 noon, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 S. Andresen Rd., Vancouver, WA, with a reception to follow.
