Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph C. Kamphaus, age 85, of O’Neill, will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, January 8th, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in O’Neill. Burial will be in the O’Neill cemetery with Military rites conducted by the O’Neill American Legion Simonson Post 93. Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill is in charge of the arrangements.

He passed away early Saturday morning, January 3rd, 2015, at the Golden Living Center in O’Neill. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Leila, four children: Sam Kamphaus and wife Vivienne of Auburn, Washington, Susan Schaaf and husband Tom of Lynch, Kenny Kamphaus and wife Carol of Burwell, and Nancy Turpin and husband Jeff of O’Neill, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, two sisters: Dorothy Summers of O’Neill, and Genevieve Shaw of O’Neill, six brothers: Bernard of O’Neill, Tony of Bonesteel, S.D., Paul of Omaha, Carl of O’Neill, Frank of Columbus, and Mike of Texas.

He was born March 25, 1929 at Raeville, NE to Joseph and Juliana (Arnberger) Kamphaus. He went to school at District #216 at Amelia, Nebraska. He was a Korean War Veteran serving from Sept. of 1951 to Febr. 1953 and was called home due to the death of his father and to help his mother. He married Leila Shaw on June 4, 1956 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in O’Neill. He was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of the District #1 Schoolboard of O’Neill, and the Farmer’s Union Co-op Board at Lynch, and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in O’Neill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, one brother and two sisters. Rev. John Bohn is officiating.
