Age: 23
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1827
Birth Place: North Carolina

Household Members: Name Age
Jane Isaacs 23 * Mother

His father, Emsley Isaacs, SR. died just three months before Emsley Jr. was born, as a result from a severe cut of an ax while chopping wood causing him then to bleed to death. He was only 30 years of age.

Emsley Isaacs Jr. married Lydia "Liddie"Carpenter Isaacs in Yancey County, North Carolina about 1869. They had ten children with names being Charlie, Cordelia, James Burton "Burt", William E, Charlotte, Aaron Wesley, Laura Matilda, Richard, Destie, and Julie Ann Isaacs. All but four of the children died at a very young age. Those that survived were James Burton "Burt" Isaacs,
Aaron Wesley Isaacs, Laura Matilda Isaacs Johnson, and Destie M Isaacs Benfield.

Emsley Isaacs Jr. was known to be a Baptist Minister.

On July 16, 1920, Carter County, Tennessee, Emsley Isaacs, Jr., still married, died at the age of 72.

I am the Grandaughter of Aaron Wesley Isaacs, so Emsley "Ems" Isaacs Jr. was my Great Grandfather. With me growing up living nearby my Grandfather, I have heard his father's named mentioned quite often.

I have a chair that belonged to Emsley Isaacs Jr. I had been told in the past that it was the chair of G Grandfather Emsley, but just today was observing more closely one of the photos that I have of him and realized he was sitting in this very chair. (photo on this page)

I can remember my Grandfather going over to Carter County, Tn., to visit the grave site of his father along with other relatives that were buried there.

I have taken notice that there are three Buck Cemeteries listed for Carter County, Tennessee. I have been told that one was also known as the Isaacs Cemetery, so this is the one as to where Emsley Isaacs Jr. is buried, as being located off of Buck Mountain Rd, Carter County, Roan Mountain, Tennessee.

* I would like to include this little story of Emsley "Ems" that has been told in the family over the years. I was just talking with my Mother, Maggie this morning on the phone and was telling her the exciting news of discovering Emsley my Great Grandfather was sitting in his chair as in a photo that we have of him (the rocking chair I now have). Mother then thought of this little story that happened with Emsley. Years back they said he had seen a picture somewheres of this furniture and so he liked the looks of it and decided he wanted to order a set for himself. Well, he said, "I will order a set for me and a set for Mam." He spoke of his wife as "Mam". (at this time they were parted and not living together, but he was still thinking of her). Well, he did order and then when he got word the furniture had come in he asked his son, Aaron, (my Grandfather) to take him to pick the furniture up. My Grandfather took him by horse and wagon to get the new furniture. When they arrived and looked at it..it was little ole' small furniture more like for children, etc.
So, with hearing this funny little story..naturally I wanted to hear more..so I asked my Mother.."then what happened? Did they take the furniture or what?" She said she didn't know from there..we laughed and both agreed that for sure he probably did not take "Mam" a set that he had ordered for her!

* My appreciation to Mary Ann, as her assistance in providing photos of the Isaacs' Cemetery, Emsley Isaacs Jr's Marker Stone and other relatives buried here at the Isaacs' Cemetery.
