Mrs. Kate N. Barnes, 81, formerly of 1713 Whittier Ave., died at 12:30 a.m. today at Norberry Clinic in Jacksonville after a 24-hour-day-illness.

A resident of Springfield for 75 years, she was born in Danville.

She was a member of First Methodist Church, Worthy Workers Circle of Kings Daughters, Women's Club and Retired Teachers Association. She taught at DuBois School from 1899 to 1909.

Survivors include one son, Ben A. Barnes of Springfield; three daughters, Mrs. Frank H. Whitney and Mrs. Elmer P. Cluver of Springfield and Mrs. Jack E. Gordon of Chatham; also 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Smith Funeral Chapel, Dr. Joseph Albrecht officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

A large number of friends called last evening to extend congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Barnes, 1709 Whittier aveneu on their twenty-fiveth wedding addiversary. The at-home was arranged by the three daughters, the Misses June, Ruth and Helen Barnes.

During the evening, a musical program was presented by the Barnes girls assisted by the brother, Ben Barnes, flutist.

Mr. and Mrs. Barnes were married Nov. 24, 1909 in Springfield by Dr. A.C. Piersel, then pastor of First Methodist church.

Mr. Barnes has been a member of the Schnepp and Barnes Printing company for thirty-five years.

Mrs. Barnes was formerly Miss Kate Newlin, teacher in Dubois school.
