Mose, whose last name is also seen as "Fraser" gave the following information on his application for a pension for service during the Civil War [dated July 19, 1933]: "...born in Lancaster County, South Carolina, on or about Sept. 15, 1842, as a slave and the property of Elias Fraser of said Lancaster County, S.C.; that he was impressed into the service of the South Carolina Troops, C.S.A., and sent to Morris island about 1862 near Charleston, S.C., as body servant and cook to his master, who was Lieutenant Elias Fraser, an officer in the regiment of Col. John D. Wiley's 12th Regiment of South Carolina Troops; that he assisted in building breastworks and fortifications at Morris Island...that he went with Lt. Fraser to Petersburg, VA., and was with his master at the "Crater" or "Blow Up"; that his master, Lt. Elias Fraser, was wounded..." His pension was approved.

Mose moved into the area near Monroe, NC about 1931; research indicates that he was married 3 times with his 2nd wife's name being Roxana (Roxie). Though listed as a servant on his death record seen at Family Search, usually he was noted as a farmer in the census records. This same death record provided his date of death as well as his place of burial being Rose Hill in Lancaster, S.C. A small obituary notice also appeared in The Monroe Journal at the time of his death.
