Elsie May (Brizendine) Humphreys was born on December 11, 1924 in Bedford County, Virginia, the daughter of Henry Arthur Brizendine (1895-1971) and Connie Elizabeth (Padgett) Brizendine (1896-1971), and she grew up in the mountains of her native state.
She was married on August 29, 1945 in Big Island, Virginia to Cloid Humphreys, and after World War II, they made their home in Middle Tennessee.
The Humphreys were active members of Clearview Baptist Church of Franklin for decades, and Elsis, in addition to being a homemaker and keeper of the family history, worked for many years as the executive secretary to the Chancellor of Belmont College and assisted in the research and editing of a number of books.
A long-time resident of Brentwood, Elsie passed away unexpectedly on December 18, 2014.
Preceded in death by her husband and by her daughter Ruth (Humphreys) Harkreader, she is survived by a daughter; grandson; granddaughter; five great-grandsons; and a son-in-law.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at graveside in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
