Painter and lithographer, known as Barker of Bath, the son of a former solicitor and minor artist, Benjamin Barker (c.1720-1793) and his wife, Anne. In 1783 the family settled in Bath and Barker's artistic promise was quickly recognized. He exhibited occasionally at the Royal Academy between 1791 and 1829 and regularly at the British Institution between 1807 and 1847. Barker was an enthusiastic pioneer in the new art of lithography, contributing to the first set of lithographs published in Britain in 1803.
