Willard "Bud" Dow was born in Green River, Wyoming, on September 21st, 1929, to Willard Ashley and Rhoda Williams Dow. He was their only son. Bud was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in The United States Navy 1942-1945. He survived the violent sinking of his ship in a typhoon in October 1945. Bud was the radioman who sent out the S.O.S. calls for help during the incident. He was in the water for over a day before finally be rescued. In 1946, Bud married Aileen Menghini of Rock Springs. He was a switchman for the Union Pacific Railroad in Green River for years before making the decision to attend a school television repair school in Denver, Colorado. Upon completing the course, he lived with his family in Rock Springs before moving to Salt Lake City. Bud and Aileen had three daughters, Cindy and Kristy who live in Salt Lake City , Janice, resides in Lone Tree, Colorado, and one son, Joseph Willard (Joe) who lives in Houston, Texas. Bud is survived by his wife, his children and their spouses, seven grandchildren, one sister, Betty Jean Taylor of Green River, Wyoming and four great-grandchildren. His two sisters, Laura Nylander and June Orme are both deceased. He was preceeded in death by both of his parents, Willard and Rhoda Dow, and his dearly loved granddaughter, Sara in who died in 1993 at nine years of age. Bud loved cooking, especially for his children whenever they came to visit. He loved small animals like birds and cats and was a devotee of Western History. He read all he could find on the Battle of the Big Horn in Montana and visited the battlefield at least twice. He loved to talk about the by gone days of Custer, cowboys and Indians. He had been ill for awhile, and his dealth was not unexpected, but it was very hard for his family to lose him when he finally passed away. He will be missed always, and never forgotten.
