Charles A. Niles died December 13, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born September 28th, 1950 in Janesville, WI to Charles P. and Beatrice (Gramke) Niles. He graduated from Craig High School in 1969. Despite his…checkered…academic record, Chuck had a lifelong love of learning. He was an accomplished guitar player who played in several bands and did some professional studio work. He was also a real estate broker, ordained minister, certified wine taster (despite the fact he almost never drank), public pool operator, and had too many other equally varied skills to mention. Chuck married Victoria Jacobson in Janesville on November 2nd, 1974 and together they raised two children, Jason and Erika. He married Heather Herold in Janesville on October 19th, 2001 and expanded his family to include stepson Brandon. Chuck worked for General Motors for 32 years. He did several jobs and was active in the UAW. After retirement, he found his true calling as a motorcycle safety instructor. He taught hundreds of motorcyclists with precision and patience and an uncompromising focus on safety. Chuck was active in Janesville Little Theatre since childhood. He worked on several plays as an actor, director, and board member. Chuck will be remembered for his generosity, his wisdom and advice (whether solicited or not), but mostly for his devotion to his parents, children, and grandchildren who were the delight of his life. He is survived by his wife, Heather Niles; son Jason (Lisa) Niles; daughter, Erika (Josh) Penny; stepson, Brandon (Michelle) Smith; his beloved grandchildren; in laws; sister, Kim (Michael) Soha; close friend, Craig Schumacher; and many other nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. The family will hold visitations on Wednesday, December 17th from 4 – 7 PM and Thursday, December 18th from 10 – 11 AM, with Funeral Services at 11 AM at Schneider, Apfel, Schneider, and Schneider Funeral Home, 1800 E. Racine St., Janesville, WI. Interment will follow at Oakhill Cemetery.
