Oscar Monroe "Buddy" Folk
Born in Greensboro, NC on
August 12, 1927, son of the
Don D. Folk and Sarah Monroe
Folk, who moved to Greenville
in 1936, where his father was
employed. He attended Greenville
City Schools, before entering
Clemson College (later Clemson
University) in the School of
Engineering. After his freshman
year, continued his education
at Furman University, the old
downtown campus. While at
Furman he became interested
in art and discovering that he
had a talent for drawing and
painting. Folk attended Pratt
Institute in New York, where
he was graduated with a degree
in Industrial Design. After many
years as a designer for IBM he
returned to Greenville and began
his career as an artist, working
in oils as well as in other media.
This was the career he continued
until an unfortunate accident left
him unable to work. Folk served in
the US Navy veteran. He is survived
by a brother, Don Folk, Jr. of
Charlotte, NC; a niece, Donna
Thomas of Hawaii; and nephews
John, William, Andrew and Peter
Thomas, and a nephew Alan M.
Folk of Charlotte.
A private service for the family
was held.
