From the "Peru Republican", Peru, Indiana, Jan. 26, 1923:
"Asbury Elliott, son of Jesse and Hannah B. Elliott was born Feb. 12, 1860 near Gilead, Miami County, Indiana and departed this life, Jan. 15, 1923 at the age of sixty-two years, eleven months and three days.
Practically all his life was spent in the community of his birth where in childhood and youth he attended the public schools and for a time the State Normal at Terre Haute, prepatory to teaching; after which he spent a number of years successfully teaching in the schools of Miami County. Jan. 1, 1891 he was united in marriage to Miss Eleanora Armfield and to this union were born four children: Merrill who resides in the parental home; Clarence who preceded the father to the Heavenly home April 11, 1921; Lucile, who is one of the instructors in Elwood High School; Jesse, student in Depauw University; also a foster son, Lynn of Kokomo, and Katherine the beloved daughter-in-law of Chicago. Besides the family three sisters, Mrs. A.L. Davis, Denver, Ind.; Mrs. Ellen Doane, Lorain, Oh.' Mrs. Wm. Kile, Peru, Ind.; and one brother, C.M. Elliott, Jonesboro, Ind. Numerous nephews and nieces and a host of friends, survive to mourn his death.
He was a devoted husband, an affectonate father, a fine brother and a loyal citizen, always interested in the welfare of the community, laboring for the promotion of its best interests.
The great and interesting epoch in the life of the deceased began in the winter of 1879 when he experienced that change that admitted him into the good Shepherd's fold, soon thereafter united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Pleasant Hill under the pastorate of Rev. J.K. Waltz.
Faithfulness in service and devotion to christian principals characterized his entire life from the time he identified himself with the church, almost constantly filling various stations of responsibility until the Master gave the summons to come up higher.
We'll let thee go, dear husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, but death cannot rob us of the sweet memories of childhood youth, and age, nor hope of joyful reunion in the bright and sunlit clime."
