Henry moved with his parents to Bury, Lancaster, England, shortly after his birth. When he was in his teens, it became necessary for him to get a job to support himself. He was not satisfied with menial jobs, so he studied at night to become a school teacher. After some time, he was successful in obtaining a teaching assignment. He married the same year he was converted to the church. He and his bride Sarah(Jeffs) immigrated to the Valley in 1852. He worked on the foundation of the temple until he was injured in a cave-in, but not seriously. His wife died and he moved to Provo in 1856, later he was one of those who opened New London, or Heber City as it is now known. In 1869 he remarried to Fannie Lee and they made their home in Heber City. Henry was a school teacher, usually accepting produce from the families in payment for his services. Later, he was given $25.00 per month. He volunteered in several of the Indian battles. He took part in many local community projects and was active in church affairs.
