She married John Haxton on 6 Feb 1893 at St. Stephen's RC Church in Blairgowrie, Scotland. The witnesses for their marriage were Michael O'Donnell (older brother of Helen and Joann Haxton (older sister of John). They were married by Father John Malcolm and they named their first son after him. Together they had 9 children (8 boys and 1 girl): John Malcolm, William, Thomas Crumbley (named after the priest Helen's sister Bridget cared for), James Michael, Catherine, Leo, Philip Stewart, Francis Claude and Edward Hughes (he was named after Helen's sister Sarah's husband Edward "Ned" Hughes). All of the children were born in Scotland.
