Philip Whisenhunt was the son of John and Eve Whisenhunt. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church June 27, 1813. He had two brothers and three sisters, all named in his father's will. They were: Daniel, Ephraim, Catherine, Polly, and Sarah. Philip married Mary "Polly" Abernathy, daughter of Miles Abernathy and Nancy Rockett, in 1835 in Lincoln Co., NC. Philip and Polly had thirteen children whose names and spouses are listed:

John C. - died in the Civil War
William M - Harriet P. Propst
Sarah Emeline - Jacob S. Deitz
Anna - Amos Huffman
Catherine - Gaither Huffman
Pinkney - died young

Peter Andrew Whitener, a son-in-law, was administrator of Philip's estate. Gravemarkers have not been found for Philip and Polly, but it is believed they are buried at Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery where five of their children are buried.
