Maurice D. Luker, 94, died Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, MS. Visitation will be held Friday evening, December 12, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Waller Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Hope officiating. A graveside service will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens at 2:00 P.M.

Born in Calhoun County, MS, to the late Walter B. and Ollie Lee Collums Luker, Mr. Luker was a retired truck driver with Commercial Carrier in Memphis, TN and a farmer. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Abbeville, MS, Masonic Lodge of Abbeville, MS and the Scottish Rite. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as an Aviation Chief Machinist’s Mate.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth L. Newbanks Luker; two daughters, Marie Alice Luker and Kay Smith; a son, John Luker and two grandchildren.

Mr. Luker is survived by his wife, Eva J. Luker of Abbeville, MS; a daughter, Diane Kabbes and her husband, Rob of Milford, OH; two step-daughters, Jo Vinzant and her husband, Frank of Pelahatchie, MS and Martha Gray and her husband, Thomas of Memphis, TN; two sons, Mike Luker his wife, Linda of Randolph, MS and Paul Luker and his wife, Susan of Abbeville, MS; a stepson, Gary Bishop and his wife Judy of Abbeville, MS; a son-in-law, Paul Smith of Pearl, MS; a sister, Beatrice Brister, nineteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

In honor of Mr. Luker’s service to his country, the flag of the United States Navy will be flown at Waller Funeral Home.
