Aubrey Claude Shelton, 73, the Yakima Realtor who helped found the Yakima Multiple Listing Board, died Monday in Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Shelton, of 3511 W. Chestnut, had retired from the real estate business several years ago and at the time of his death was owner and manager of Westpark Shopping Center, which he helped develop.

He was born May 13, 1905 on the family homestead in Robinson Canyon near Ellensburg. He was the youngest and last to survive of six children born to Rebecca Jane and Thomas Jefferson Shelton.

His mother and father moved to Washington State in 1887 after selling their Texas farm, traveling to Kansas City, Missouri, by covered wagon and then on to Washington by train. The family moved to Yakima in 1911.

He attended Wide Hollow and Nob Hill schools and graduated from Yakima High School in 1925. He married Sadie E. Linse, also of a pioneer Yakima family, in January 1927. The celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1977.

Mr. Shelton worked for the Railway Express before working 18 years with the Yakima Fire Department, where he helped organize the credit union and was the first treasurer of the organization. He resigned as assistant fire chief in 1945 and acquired L. A. Dash Realty. When he moved the business to the Larson Building in 1948, the name was changed to Shelton Reality, Inc.

During the next 25 years, he was involved in the development of Brackett Park Village Heights, The Uplands, Westpark Shopping Center, Viewmont Park, Hilltop Heights and Shelton Park.

He was a charter member of the Yakima Multiple Listing Board and served on the board of directors from 1947 to 1957. He also was a member of the County Planning Commission and active in the Yakima Board of Realtors. He served as president of the Washington Association of Realtors in 1862, and was a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management of the National Association of Realtors. He retired from the real estate business in 1973, but continued as owner-manager of Westpark Shopping Center.

He never lost a keen interest in farming and maintained a small family orchard and garden on Hillcrest until his death.

Mrs. Shelton was a director of the Yakima Chamber of Commerce and a member of Westpark United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club, Mount Adams Lodge No. 227, Scottish Rite, Afifi Temple of the Shrine, Syringa Chapter No. 38, OES, Men's Republican Club and Knife and Fork Club.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie Shelton of Yakima; one son, Arthur T. Shelton, a missionary in Tokyo; one daughter, Gloria Ann Lomax of Seattle; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
