OBITUARY -- GROENE
Christopher Groene was born in Purssia, Germany, March 20, 1832. He came to America when 26 years old and has made his home in Grant county ever since. In 1862 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Holzenberge of Germany and this union was given five children; Charles of Ellenboro, Mrs. Frank Swallow of Liberty; Wm. of Mason City, Iowa; George of Fennimore and Ella deceased. Mrs. Groene preceded her husband to the great beyond in 1871 and in 1873 he was united in marriage to Miss Christena Fiest. February 23, 1904 she died leaving one child, Bertha who married Henry Keller of Liberty.
Mr. Groene was a well known settler of Grant county and departed this life at the ripe old age of eight-four years. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon with Rev. Beavin officiating. Interment at Hillside cemetery.
