Vernon Gerald Buckles, longtime Ripley resident, passed away Wednesday evening, November 26, 2014, in the St. John Medical Center of Tulsa at the age of 78 years.
The son of the late Harry Cecil Buckles and Gertie Myers Buckles, Vernon was born on January 11, 1936 in Ripley, Oklahoma where he was raised and educated. At the age of 16 he moved to California and worked in the ship yards, retiring from the Long Beach Marina Ship Yard in 2001.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Lee Buckles and his brothers and sisters, Clifford Buckles, Russell Buckles, Guy Buckles, Cecil Buckles, Orin Buckles, Genevieve Daniel, Elizabeth Soapes and Marline Boyles.
