Earl Isaacs

Born January 12, 1916, Earl Isaacs was born in Carter County, Tn., the next to the last child of ten children born of Aaron Wesley Isaacs & Martha Alice Ashley Isaacs.

Earl Isaacs married Retha Flowers and they had one son, Gerald Parker Isaacs, born McDowell Co., N.C. Earl and Retha were later separated and divorced.

Earl served in the US Army WW II.

His second wife was Faye Morgan Thomas; she had three sons by a previous marriage. Earl was close to them also, epecially a stepson, Gerald Thomas, as Earl's friend, whom he kept in contact with up until close to the time of his death. Earl and his second wife divorced many years before his death.

Then afterwards, Earl moved into the home of his parents and continued to live with them at thier homeplace. After thier deaths, he continued residing there at their old homeplace and farming the land.

Earl was a Forest Ranger for many years, as to which he thoroughly enjoyed. His watch from a local fire tower is where he spent most of his days of work, other than farming at home. Family and friends heard alot about his days of work at the fire tower; he had a great view, as to what was going on as of his view from the tower and of his radio reportings of happenings around the area. Once escaped prisoners paid him a visit while he was working on the fire tower..that was a story to tell. Over the years, a road going by the front of his home has been named "Ranger Drive," after Earl.

He was a big farmer..with his love for his tractors and machinery; also, his pastime was watching T.V. He had a great fondness for the Westerns, as Gunsmoke,etc..

Also, I have heard the stories of what a great basketball player he was in his younger years, in high school, at Glenwood, North Carolina. Family used to enjoy getting him starting on talking of those days, as he enjoyed thinking back on those days.

Earl was very good in letter writing and continued to do so up until his health became so bad and with his hands shaking badly, making it too difficult for him to write. He kept in contact with relatives living out of state by his letter writing. I often wonder what he could have done with a computer of today? He even sent Christmas Cards out every year, as I have one that he sent not long before his death.

On June 12, 1997, Earl Isaacs, died at the V A Hospital, Oteen, Buncombe Co., N.C., at the age of 81.
