Elizabeth G. Simons' soul left this earthly life Thursday, December 4, 2014, in her home, surrounded by family. She is now with her Lord and loved ones, who have passed before.

She was born February 1, 1914, in Springfield, Ill., a daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah Jenkins Miller.

Mrs. Simons attended Ritchey School in Wheeling, W.Va., and was a member of Avella Presbyterian Church. S

he was a member of American Legion Bert C. Siders Post 643 Ladies Auxiliary of Avella.

She was a Gold Star Mother since 1969.

Mrs. Simons lived in Avella since 1947.

She was a great and loving mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. All who knew her will miss her. She was a mentor to a lot of people growing up in the '50s, '60s and '70s.

On June 28, 1940, in Wheeling, she married Ray O. Simons, who died April 29, 1972.

Surviving are a daughter, Sondra (Wayne) Wright of Columbus, Ohio; six sons, Thomas (Karen) Simons Sr. of Avella, Fred (Melissa) Simons of Avella, Joseph Simons of Avella, Ronald (Vicki) Simons of Washington, Donald (Judy) Simons of Tucson, Ariz., and Alfred (Carla) Simons of Avella; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are sons Ray O. Simons Jr. and Charles D. Simons; sisters Elsie Dorr, Roberta Varveroski and Beryle Talbert; and brother Thomas Miller.

Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 7, in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 8, with the Rev. Jim Schmitt officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 190 Bilmar Drive, Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
