Albert Croot was the natural son of Emma Skittreal and James Henry Eagle* 1834-1921. He was baptized in Burbage (near Marlborough) Wiltshire on 29 Jun 1862. His mother successfully sued his father for child support after his birth although it is not known if she actually collected money. The testimony established that they had had a long-standing relationship. He was adopted by his step-father John Croot and his name was changed. He immigrated to the United States in 1871 with their family.

It is worth noting that he alone of the three sons that Emma Croot had before her marriage was adopted by John Croot. The others remained in England, one adopted by his grandparents. He was treated equally with his half-siblings in John Croot's will. His half-brother John Thomas Skittreal vanishes from the record after 1871 and his half-brother William was adopted by his grandmother Rebecca Skittreal Hayes and her husband. William vanishes from the record after 1891.

He was a carpenter as were most of the Croot men.

His wife was Anna Elizabeth Wooley Croot. They had three daughters: Emma Jane Weber 1889-1959; Clara Mae Nessman 1897-1990; and Daisy Belle Menzie 1900-1971.

* His natural father James Eagle, who left Wiltshire in the 1860s, was buried at Ladywell Cemetery, Lewisham, London, England. Findagrave #263318384. His wife was buried in Plot E1192 in 1908. A son Alfred was buried there in 1903 in D4464 and other children died in Lewisham later.
