Shirley Mae Anderson was born July 11, 1929, in Roland, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Ellen (Gurine) Anderson. She was raised in Roland, graduating from Roland/Story High School. On July 17, 1954, she married Dale Paul Miller at the Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. For a number of years the couple owned and operated the Miller Café in Roland, moving to Coralville in 1966. Here she worked for Slade Roofing for over 11 years and AAA Mechanical Contractors for over 16 years before retiring.

Shirley enjoyed life, to say she was a Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs Fan was an understatement! She was an active member of Christ The King Lutheran Church, having taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and involved with so many other church activities throughout her life in the church. She was a former member of the Eagles Lodge, active member of the Coralville American Legion Auxiliary, and a bowler for most of her life. But most important and dear to her was her family, no prouder mom or grandma could be found when it came to them!
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Milton, Edward, and Truman; and sisters, Bernice, Jenny, Berdella and Evelyn.
