OBITUARY

Marlene Elveta Ashby White was born May 24, 1916 to Schuyler and Mae Holder Ashby in rural Lucas County and passed away at Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center on November 21, 2014.

In May 1934, Marlene graduated from Melcher High School after which time she moved to Chariton being employed by local families, caring for their homes, hoping in time to become a teacher.

Marlene met Kenneth B. White and on March 6, 1937 they were married at the Baptist Parsonage in Chariton and she became a full time homemaker. They began their married life in rural Lucas and Marion counties, a marriage that lasted for 75 years.

Two children were born to this marriage, Marlin Eugene in 1939 and Linda Kay in 1941. They settled on a farm in English Township in 1947.

Marlene soon became involved in many activities, her children's school, 4-H and church activities, and also with Farm Bureau Women's Extension. Marlene was the last charter member of the Better Homes Club. Many hours were spent at the county fair as she was in charge of the food stand, a labor of love for her. She was a 4-H leader for the English Happy Helpers 4-H club and always had a kind word for everyone with never ending patience.

Working with Kenneth in remodeling their homes as well as doing the same for their family, digging in the dirt with flowers and garden, sewing, working on old furniture, crafting, cooking, and being surrounded by family and friends was Marlene's life.

Marlene was a mother to Marlin (Linda) of Chariton, Linda (Bob) Halden of Rotonda West, Fl., grandmother to Mark, Tim and Kevin White, Heidi Moore, Jay and Kent Halden, great-grandmother to Brian, Andrea, Brett, Tori Brittany and Ty White, Brendon and Shaun Eilander, Jillian and Schuyler Moore, Connor and Olivia Halden and great-great-grandmother to Brandt Kenneth and Norah White.
