Mr. Owen Lemar Fawley, 96 , of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on November 21, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Betty A. Frye Fawley whom he married on June 10, 1950. Owen was born in Taylorstown, Virginia on September 29, 1918 and was the son of the late Owen Homer Fawley and Nannie Bertha Woodward Fawley.

Owen is survived by his wife of over 64 years, one daughter, Linda D. Fawley Brubaker and husband Jerry of Thurmont, MD. He is also survived by one brother, Charles R. Fawley, and one sister, Anabelle Hanshew, both of Frederick. He is also remembered by Jeff and Joanie Brubaker, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack R. Fawley and Jimmy Fawley; 3 sisters, Mary Elizabeth Fawley, Lillian Fawley Graham and Mamie Elizabeth Fawley Smith.

Owen proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945. He served 36 months in the European Theater of Operations with the 5th Army, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Armored Division. He participated in a number of campaigns including Tunisia in North Africa, and the liberation of Naples, Rome and into the North Apennines Mountains. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon. Upon his return, he worked at Detrick and Gambrill Feed Mill for several years and then eventually began his career as an appliance technician at the L.B. Nicodemus Company becoming very well known in the community as the "Maytag Man". Over the years he was recognized with many awards for his excellent commitment to service to all of his customers. He was selected for the #1 Service Excellence Award by the Maytag Company and earned a trip to the Maytag Factory in Newton, Iowa where they acknowledged his service with an award. Owen later moved on to Routzhan's where he continued to provide excellent service and was again given an outstanding service award. After retirement from Routzahn's, Owen continued working in his own business repairing appliances for family, friends and all of his treasured customers. He loved helping people and never met a person he didn't like. He was well known and respected by all of his customers. In addition to repairing appliances, Owen loved fixing and tinkering with clocks. He loved baseball and was an avid Orioles fan still watching this season and hoping for a World Series Championship all the while wearing his treasured Orioles Cap.

Owen was an active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church for 64 years and was also a member of the Leaders Bible Class.

The family is grateful for the support and care from Hospice. Specifically Nurse Patty; Aides Kelly, Cathy, and Colleen; Social Worker Brienne, Volunteer Judy and Chaplain Mary.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland. Rev. Harry C. Cole will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.

Family will receive friends from 5- 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the funeral home.
