Lewis Lester, Jr., 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Lester of Cincinnati, formerly of Somerset, was killed instantly about 6 o'clock Thursday evening when he was struck by a troop train while playing on the tracks in the Cincinnati railroad yards, according to word received by relatives here.

Details of the accident were not learned, but it was understood that he was returning from school and stopped on the tracks playing with other boys and failed to hear the approaching train. He was dead when picked up by members of the train crew.

Young Lester was born in Somerset and lived here with his parents until about a year ago. He attended school here and was well known.

The body was returned to Somerset and funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Langdon Street Baptist Church, the Rev. Hoyt Chastain officiating. Interment was in the West Somerset Cemetery.

Besides his parents, the boy is survived by four sisters, Miss Maxine Lester, Mrs. Margaret Selka, and Mrs. Louise Lyons, all of Cincinnati, and Mrs. Rose Thacker of Crescent Springs, Kentucky; a brother, Dewane Lester of Cincinnati; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Sam Bogle; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Kate Burton, both of Somerset; and several aunts and uncles of Somerset.

From The Commonwealth, Somerset, Kentucky - Wednesday, May 26, 1943.
