ELLINWOOD – Charles “Chuck” Frydendall, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Ellinwood on Nov. 17. Born Jan. 20, 1928, near Portis, Chuck was the oldest son of Milo and Bessie Frydendall.
He graduated from Portis High School with the class of 1947. Chuck and Marilyn Ackley were married in 1949 and lived on a farm near Portis until they moved to Wichita in 1955. There Chuck drove a gas transport for Standard Oil and later for KAW Transport.
In 1970, the family moved to Ellinwood where Chuck completed 29 years of driving the big rig and surpassed the “Million Miles Club,” before scaling down to a school bus for six years and many more as a driver of Ellinwood’s transportation bus.
Always glad to help others, Chuck was a longtime volunteer for delivering Meals on Wheels and many were rides he gave to friends for church and appointments in his own van. Chuck was a fan of all sports and enjoyed coaching Little League teams and playing softball on his church team. As a coach, he always told his boys “Say You Can,” as they came up to bat. Chuck was an active member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Heritage Senior Center, and a former Lions Club member.
Preceding him in death are Charles and Marilyn’s children, Michael, Curtis and Mary Jane, as well as his parents and brother, LeRoy.
Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Immanual United Church of Christ in Ellinwood with the Rev. Jennifer Fair presiding. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Downs Cemetery in Downs. Memorials are suggested to the UCC Church, the Heritage Club, or Golden Belt Home Health & Hospice in care of the funeral home.
