Charles "Gilbert" Bethel Sept. 25, 1930 - Dec. 27, 2011 Charles "Gilbert" Bethel, age 81 of Austin, TX passed away. He was a man of few words, yet his quiet sincerity spoke volumes. He was your dad, your granddad, your uncle, your friend. He was an avid outdoorsman. Equally at home, fishing at the coast or hunting in Wyoming. He and Doris loved to travel from the mountains of Colorado and a leisurely drive to Canada, to exploring the wilds of Alaska. After retiring from Southwestern Bell he built a home on the Pedernales River where it met the Colorado River. He lived there with Doris and his faithful dog Ginger. After years of sharing laughter on the water with family and friends he and Doris returned "to town". Now the football game is over and the quarterback has retired. Charles is survived by the love of his life and wife of 61 years Doris (Grandmanu); a special relationship with his grandson Thomas Adrian Guedea (TAG); daughter, Suzanne Guedea and husband Tom; son Gary and wife Amy. He will be sadly missed by many family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Manchaca Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Family will receive friends after graveside service at Manchaca Baptist Church. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/statesman/obituary.aspx?n=charles-gilbert-bethel&pid=155259562#sthash.vneieK0C.dpuf
