Lockett and Lydia "Lillie" Hickman 1803-abt1870, him from Virginia and her from Franklin County, Kentucky, and both died in Henderson County, Kentucky. James's father, Capt. Frank, had already been married once before and was a widower when he met Lillie. Capt. Frank already had eight children with his first wife, Martha Goode Marshall 1787-1828.

James served in Company A, 10th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment, CSA. He entered service as a Private, then was later promoted to Sgt.

He was a farmer in Henderson County for most of his life and he never married.
