Mary Green the second of eight children of the late Maryon and Alcreasa Green was born September 8, 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee. Mary departed this life quietly and peacefully on
Thursday, October 23, 2014.

Mary affectionately known as “Mae” was educated in Memphis, Tennessee Public schools. She was a proud graduate of Douglass High School, class of 1963. Upon graduating, Mae’s goal was to work for the United States Postal Service. She studied day and night, preparing for the entrance examination. She successfully passed and was assigned to the postal service in Nashville, Tennessee.

The family had mixed emotions, we were happy for Mae, but at the same time, devastated because we did not want Mae to leave home, but this was part of God’s plan for her life in the ministry. After 35 years of service, she retired.

Mae’s religious experience began as a young child. She accepted Christ in the family’s church in Memphis, Tennessee under the pastorate of Reverend E. V. McGhee. She served as a devoted
Sunday school teacher. She continued studying and teaching God’s Word. After becoming a resident of Nashville, Tennessee, Mae joined Watson Grove Missionary Baptist church under the pastorate of Reverend Curtis Goodwin, where she continued her spiritual walk by living and teaching God’s Word. She was a faithful Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also a dedicated member of the Willing Workers. She was also a faithful and diligent member
of the Bible Study Class under the leadership of the late Reverend C. W. Goodwin, Sr., and the present pastor Reverend John Faison. She lived the life she taught through God’s Word. “Love one another as Christ has loved you. So you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” John 13:34-35.

Mae demonstrated her appreciation of God’s Word through music. She praised God through word and song. She was a woman of great faith, believing in the power and promises of God. She was truly one of God’s chosen disciples. Go said, “Who will go?” and Mae said “Lord send me”. She was a prayer warrior and worshipper. She knew the power of prayer and worship.

Mae was always eager to be of help, even to strangers. She was loved and respected by her family, friends, co-workers and her loving church family. She was a loyal and true friend. If you ever needed her, she was always there. Maw was a woman of great love.

Her winning smile was contagious and when she laughed everybody laughed. Even through her illness, her faith and trust in god never waivered. She has a good sense of humor. She would make you laugh in spite of how she felt. God needed some laughter in heaven, he chose Mae. She enjoyed having fun, family gatherings was a favorite, sharing yesteryear stories, and just plain old teasing. She brought twinkle to your eyes and a chuckle to the room. You could depend on Mae to keep something going on the entire time. Mae’s sweet sweet spirit and charming smile will be forever missed.

Mae leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted daughters, Stephanie (Ronnie) French and Gianikas Green; sisters, Willie (Harold) Henry, Baltimore, Maryland, Patricia (Joseph) Lloyd, Columbus, Mississippi, Joyce Green, Memphis, Tennessee; brothers, Nathaniel (Shirley) Green, Idabel, Oklahoma and Ralph (Barbara) Green, Memphis, Tennessee; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; uncle, Joseph C. Green, Chicago, Illinois; and a host
of nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving and devoted friends.
