Keith "Skip" Houdersheldt age 82 of Shelby passed away November 6, 2014 at the Osceola Good Samaritan Society.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date with inurnment in Union Cemetery. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
Skip was born November 23, 1931 to Maurice Jon and Elvira Grace (Lohr) Houdersheldt in Shelby. He attended Kramer High school in Columbus and graduated from Shelby High school in 1949. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
On June 12, 1951 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Euse in Shelby. To this union three children were born. Skip began farming in 1955 and over the years continued to supervise his sons. In 1961 he started H & H Repair in Shelby, servicing automotive and irrigation engines. In the early 1970s they expanded to H & H Irrigation, specializing in yumatic pivots. Around this time he also became a partner in Shelby Flying Service, a crop dusting business.
Skip enjoyed playing baseball and played on a semi-pro town baseball team until he was 53. He was fortunate to be able to play with both of his sons and was named All-Star Centerfielder for the State of Nebraska. He also enjoyed fishing in Minnesota and had been making the trip since 1938. He loved to hunt duck, pheasants and especially deer. In 1985 he tagged the 8th largest deer in the State of Nebraska for Boone and Crocket. He was always proud when his grandkids tagged a deer. He enjoyed playing pool and running his bulldozer.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, his parents, and two brothers Jack and Bill.
