DECLO - Elmon N. Kidd, 92, of Declo, passed away on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 at the Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert, with family by his side.
He was born in Bruneau, Idaho on April 26, 1922, to Norman Clifford and Irva Lorine Newbold Kidd. He received his education in Jackson and Declo, Idaho.
He served in the U.S. Army in New Guinea from 1942-1945 during World War II. During this time, his father died in an auto accident. After being discharged, he then returned home to help take care of the family.
Elmon married June F. Quarnstrom on March 7, 1947 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Elmon was a Scout leader and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as the executive secretary in the bishopric, Elders Quorum secretary, and other various church callings throughout his life.
He lived in Declo, ID most of his life and enjoyed going to Quartzsite, AZ during the winter months for more than 30 years. Elmon worked as a farmer, rancher, dairyman, custom applicator, and owned and operated Kidd's Tree Service.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling with family. According to his side of the story, he always caught the biggest fish.
He loved playing the guitar, the mandolin, the banjo, and the harmonica. He played in a band while in the Army and with the local Old Time Fiddlers. Elmon was honest in his dealings with his fellow man, had a contagious smile, and loved life.
Elmon is survived by his wife, June, of Declo; sons: Ronald (Sandra) Kidd, of Magna, UT, Leland (Ruth) Kidd, of Burley, and Norman (Crystal) Kidd, of Montpelier; daughters: Diana (Lynn) Murdock, of Blackfoot, Vicki (Don) Burton, Kathy (Lynn) Blauer, and Koralie (Blain) Burton, all of Burley; sister, Norma Fewkes, of Burley; brother, Marvin Kidd, of John Day, OR; 25 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Norman C. and Irva Kidd; brothers: Cleo, Verlin and Dale Kidd; and sisters: Elda McGraw and Beulha Smith.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Declo LDS Stake Center, 213 W. Main St., in Declo, with Bishop Gregory L. Osterhout officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization. Burial will be in the Rupert Cemetery.
