He was already in the U.S. Army when Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941. He was a heavy machine gunner and went into Omaha Beach on D-Day. He won 3 Bronze Stars for heroism during the invasion, the Battle of St. Lo and in the Rhineland. He later went to Korea where he was seriously wounded by sharpnel from a Chinese missile. Too old for combat in Vietnam he was in charge of the 2nd Logistics Command Lumber Yard in Okinawa. He retired from the Army in 1968. Never one to stay idle for very long he had a second career as a Psychiatric Technician at Atascadero State Hospital in California. He was loved and respected by all that knew him and he is missed very much.
