Levi Jackson Deering, better known as Jack, was born to Alexander Levi Deering and Cora Perthena Burris Deering, on Aug. 22, 1891 in Marysville, Cooke, Texas. He was the second oldest child. Eventually the family consisted of brothers, (oldest)Charles Decatur, Harvey Loyd, John Emery, Samuel Edward, Willie (who died as an infant) and sisters Winnie Armstrong, Nancy Virginia, and Eva Mamie. They moved to Hall Co., Texas where he met his future wife, Julia Mae Nesmith. Hearing of land in Olive, NM that could be homesteaded, Jack's family moved there where they all filed homesteads. Like many homesteaders of that time, their homesteads didn't provide enough to live on so they returned to Hall Co. to work in the cotton harvest to be able to continue living on the homestead. While there, Jack and Julia married on the 17 Sept. 1916, at Lakeview, Texas.
Jack moved Julia to the homestead at Olive, NM. Jack enlisted in WWI from Olive, Chaves Co., NM while living on the homestead. Upon his return he and his wife Julia continued lilving on the homestead. Their first two of Glendon Jackson and Juanita Mae were born at Elida, NM.
After selling out their homestead, Jack moved his family back to Greer Co., Oklahoma where Wanda Jarita and Harold were born. In Jan. of 1938, Janita and Wanda were killed in a tragic auto accident. Jack moved the family to Pampa, Texas where he worked as a cabinet machinist for several years before moving back to Greer,OK where he passed away on March 14,1977.
