A native of Charleston, W.Va., he had made Crescent City his home for the past seven years, coming from Fayetteville, Va. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by two sons, Corbitt James Burgess Jr. of Melbourne and Kim Burgess of South Carolina; daughter, Chrisandra C. French of Seville; two brothers, Comnado Burgess and Theador Burgess of Charleston, W.Va.; sister, Louise Surface of Charleston, W.Va.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Anchor Baptist Church in Seville. Burial will be in Seville Cemetery.
