RAYMOND GOLDEN WEDDING
Many Friends Congratulate Warner-Place Couple
Mr and Mrs John C Raymond have celebrated the 50th anniversary of their marriage Tuesday evening at their home, 22 Warner place, by a reception to about 60 of their friends and relatives...
Mr Raymond was born September 4, 73 years ago, in Peru where he lived until he was 21 years of age. His father was Asa Raymond, and one of the leading farmers in the district, his land comprising 1000 acres, and his livestock including 1000 head of sheep. The family consisted of nine boys and four girls, all of whom, except the youngest daughter, reached maturity.
Mr. Raymond himself has always been a farmer, settling in Hinsdale after his marriage, and living there for 44 years. He cultivated two large farms and did a thriving market garden trade and conducted at the same time a meat business up to his retirement six years ago, when he removed to Springfield. His life has always been full of out-of-door activity and he remembers at the age of 10 helping with the timbers which were used in the construction of the Baptist church in Hinsdale. He joined the church at the age of 15 and has always been identified with its work, holding the offices of superintendent of the Bible school, chairman of the board of trustees, treasurer and collector.
Both Mr and Mrs Raymond have been members of the grange for 38 years, being charter members of the Hinsdale grange.
Mrs Raymond who was Anvilla E Ballou, was the daughter of Elias and Lovisa Ballou of Peru. She was born September 16, 1840, in Peru, but spent most of her life before her marriage in Becket, where she was married. Four children, all of whom are living, were born to them. Fred D Raymond of West Springfield, Laban N of 22 Warner place, Mrs Emma B Smart of High street and Mrs Carrie L Andrews of Ware. They have seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild Clarence E Jr., the one year old son of Clarence E Raymond of Oakland street...
