Marion J. McDaniel of Sidney, Texas, died on Friday, November 7, 2014, in Hillsboro, Texas.

He was born on June 16, 1918, in Comanche County, Texas, to Alonza and Nancy Merle (Parsons) McDaniel. He joined the CCC as a teenager for one year, then returned home to finish his education. After graduating from high school in May 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force. Most of his time in the service, he served in Antigua. After Discharge from service, he attended Howard Payne College and graduated with a BA Degree. He then attended Hardin Simmons and received his Masters Degree. Marion began his teaching career in Breckenridge and taught at Bula and Pep. He served as superintendent and teacher in Pep and Bula. Marion then moved to Sidney as superintendent. Prior to returning, he moved to Cotulla as a teacher. He was Alternate Poet-Laureate of Texas in 1973, was also, an author of several Poetry Books. Marion was the President and Founding Member of Small Schools Association of Texas.

He was united in marriage to Rosalie Franklin in Sidney, Texas on December 19, 1943.

He was preceded in death by two sons, David and Dwight McDaniel; one granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Peterson; two brothers, Russell and Beale McDaniel; two sisters, Ludene Michael and Imogene Pate.
