DAVID SMITH - 75, of Pittsfield died Tuesday, May 24, 1994, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. (written in ink, ‘school at P Hill'.) Born Jan. 30, 1919 in Rockport, he was a son of George T. and Beulah Mae Howland Smith. He married Agnes Ryan on May 16, 1942, in Seattle, Wash. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, David H. Jr. of Pittsfield and Stanley of Pittsfield; four daughters, Donna Smith of Baylis, Mrs. Jim (Mary) Ackerman of Virginia, Karen Lemons of Jacksonville and Gloria Powers of St. Clair, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Dorothy Smith of California, Gladys Moorefield of Jacksonville, Margaret Richards of Griggsville, Dora Mae Weinant of Pittsfield, Betty Crump of Clearwater, Fla., Helen Hull of Griggsville, Mildred M. Smith of Pittsfield and Nancy A. Bracket of Griggsville; two brothers, George T. Jr. of Harrison, Ark., and Herschel L. of Baylis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold, and one grandchild. Mr. Smith was a World War II veteran and earned medals for American Defense Service, Asiatic-Pacific Service, American Theater Service, Philippine Liberation with one bronze star, Good Conduct, Victory and Sharpshooter MI Rifle. He was involved in St. Mary's Catholic Church and was an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pittsfield, with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by Pittsfield American Legion Post 152. Niebur funeral Home in Pittsfield handled arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Pike County Hospice or the Pike County chapter of the American Cancer Society.
