"LaVern was born on December 26, 1900 near Ansley, Nebraska into the home of Marsena and Emma (Cacklin) Amsberry and died at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Hospital in Broken Bow, November 29, 1981. He was the fourth in a family of six. He recieved his formal schooling through the eighth grade at Algernon District School No. 30.
On December 22, 1926, he was united in marriage to Zelma Zeola Babcock of Pawnee City, Nebraska in Broken Bow, Nebraska. He was engaged in farming near Ansley. To this union, five children were born; Richard Lee, Patricia Joanne, Larry Gene, Bonnie Kay and one daughter, Mary Jane, who died at birth.
In 1959, they moved to Tecumseh, Nebraska, where they resided until October, 1980, when they returned to Ansley to live.
One of LaVern's greatest joys was his grandchildren; his antics gave them lots of pleasure and in turn, he became something special to them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Rollie and Ora; three sisters, Mable, Dora and Emma Marie; infant daughter Mary Jane and two grandsons, Steven Amsberry and Tom McLaughlin."
