Charley was born about 1848 in Bokchito, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, Oklahoma. He is listed in the 1855 Choctaw Census for Blue County, living with head of household James Beams. The census lists James Beams, Amy, Emily, Malissa, Lucy, Calvin, David, Josiah, Charles, and Sampson. Most of Blue County became Bryan County after Oklahoma statehood.

His family believes he died about 1885. His youngest son was born in 1881. His children were living with his brother Calvin in 1885.

Charley married Nancy Hilderbrand on May 8, 1873, in Blue County, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, Oklahoma, according to the Choctaw Nation Marriage Index.

Nancy Hilderbrand Beams was Cherokee, according to Lucy's and Edmund's Dawes Enrollment cards and testimony given by Charley's brother Josiah before the Commission of the Five Civilized Tribes.

Charley and Nancy's children were:
1. James Alexander Beams (1874 – 1949)
2. Lucy Beams Beard (1875 - 1935)
3. Isham "Isom" David Beams (1879 – 19??)
4. Edmund Gardner Beams (1881 – 1918)

The Nancy Hilderbrand buried in Hilderbrand Cemetery is not the same Nancy.

This cemetery's original name was Beames-Brackett Cemetery. It is unknown when the name was changed.

It is not certain that Charley Beams is buried at Brackett Cemetery. However, since his parents are buried there and his great grandson found a stone inscribed with C B in that cemetery, it seems a high probability. The stone could be Charley's tombstone or it could be his brother Calvin's footstone.

QUESTION:
Charley's brother Josiah's first wife was named Mary Hilderbrand and was also Cherokee. Nancy (Charley's wife) and Mary (Josiah's wife) may have been sisters. If you know, please contact me.
