Owner of the Thyson House and other real estate in Washington, DC, he was being treated at Garfield Hospital for a nervous disorder, and the staff was under strict orders not to leave him alone. However, a nurse instructed to stay with him left the room for a moment, and he jumped from a fifth-story window. He died of his injuries three days later.

Frank left a widow, Lelia, as well as a daughter, Harriet, and a son, William Frank, Jr. Lelia was later remarried to Fred S. Lincoln.
