Asa Bryant Melendy, son of Asa Melendy, son of Samuel Melendy, son of William Melendy, son of William Melendy, was born 04 July, 1829, in Guilford, Vermont. He died 19 December 1912 at Knoxville, Tennessee. He married Annie B. Rice on 4 Feb 1857 at Northampton, Massachusetts. Annie B. Rice was born 29 Sep 1833 at Northampton, Massachusetts, and died 15 Jan 1913 at Knoxville Tennessee and they are buried in Old Gray Cemetery, Knoxville, Tennessee. Annie was a sister of William O. Rice, who married Aurissa Melendy a cousin of Asa's. Asa moved to Beverly, Tennessee in 1869 after selling the homestead he had inherited from his father in Guilford, Vermont. He later settled in Knoxville. Asa ran a ferry in Beverly; later a dam was built and covered his land.
