Surrounded by his loving family, Leon Eldon Sudduth passed from this life on October 18, 2014, at his home in Holtville, California; he was 87.

Born on December 19, 1926 in Temple, Oklahoma, to Jefferson Davis and Alma Mattie Sudduth, he was the youngest of seven children with three brothers and three sisters.

In 1936, Leon and the rest of the family packed up, followed in the footsteps of the older brothers, and made their way to Imperial Valley, settling in Holtville. In 1945 and 1946, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Asiatic Pacific Campaign of WWII.

He married Dorothy Jeanette Everett in 1947 at the Gretna Green Wedding Chapel in Yuma, Arizona, and loved her dearly for 67 years. As was tradition for new brides at that time, he rolled Dorothy down Main Street in Holtville in a wheelbarrow. He and Dorothy started their life together in Holtville and raised their children there. Early on, Leon worked in the Ag industry; and at the time he retired, he was the maintenance supervisor for the Holtville Unified School District. Leon built a retirement home in Morena Lake Village, California, and enjoyed mountain living for 20 years before moving back to Holtville. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to many. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a strong, loving, and principled man.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, J. T., Avon, and Camdon; and his sisters, Nora Lee Lovas, Theona Gayle, and Pauline Jessee.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his daughter, Valerie Rodgers (Gary) of Holtville; his son, Michael Sudduth (Janice) of Brawley; his grandchildren, David Rodgers (Allison) of Honeoye Falls, New York; Mark Rodgers (Heather) of El Centro, Leslie Ashurst (Dion) of El Centro, Leighan Sells (Josh) of Brawley and great-grandchildren, Owen, Sidney and Leah Rodgers, Brooklyn, Jackson and Julian Ashurst, Mason and Wyatt Rodgers and Lincoln Sells.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dental Vision Mission Nonprofit Charity, 538 Holt Avenue, Holtville, California 92250 or to the charity of your choice.
